L.A. Unified School District Names School After Late Union President

 

WHAT:            Harry Bridges Span School, one of 20 new schools opening next month in the Los Angeles Unified School District, will host a dedication ceremony. The Wilmington school honors the late president of the International Longshore and Warehouse union, who served the labor organization over four decades. Besides workers’ rights, he fought for world peace and racial equality. His 111th birthday would have been celebrated on Saturday.  

 

                        The keynote speaker is scheduled to be Robert McEllrath, President, 

                         International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
